On
February 22, 1959 the first Daytona 500 was run before a crowd of 41,000
fans. This 200 lap, 500 mile, race is held annually in Daytona Beach,
Florida at the start of the NASCAR season. Widely regarded as the most
important and prestigious race on the NASCAR calendar the Daytona 500
brought more popularity to the sport over the years granting it the
title of "The Great American Race".
On February 2008, the Daytona 500 will celebrated its 50th running. To honor this milestone in NASCAR history, a special 2008 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 was the pace car for the golden anniversary of this legendary race. The 1:24 scale replica of this 2008 Daytona 500 pace car features opening hood, doors, and rear deck lid; as well as real rubber tires and a diecast body & chassis.
